Summary
The plant was one of the largest solar power plants in Australia at the time of its construction and it was the first large-scale solar project in the country to use a single-axis tracking system that continually orients its solar panels with the sun to increase their power output each day.
Moree Solar Farm received US$ 77.9 million in funding support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and a debt finance commitment of US$ 35.2 million from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).
The plant’s output is connected to Essential Energy’s distribution network, allowing the solar power plant to supply electricity into the grid and trade in the National Market.
Construction was completed in 2016 and it has an operating life of around 30 years.
Overview
Community value
Working in collaboration with Moree Plains Shire Council, each year, Moree Solar Farm contributes financially to a Community Enhancement Fund which aims to support community, sporting or educational organisations serving community members in the Moree Plains Shire.
In 2019, the fund was granted to Moree Boars Rugby League Football Club for perimeter fencing on Boughton Oval, and during 2020 it supported the Moree and District Historical Society with the funding of an area fit to host a new Museum on local history.
In addition to that, Moree Solar Farm also sponsored Moree Suns AFL Club’s caps, jumpers and shorts for their junior and senior team, following a devastating fire incident at the end of their 2018 season when many items were lost. We kept this sponsorship for the female and male junior teams during 2019 and 2020.
